Alertness Training Increases Visual Processing Speed in Healthy Older Adults

چکیده

In this study, we investigated whether alertness training in healthy older adults increases visual processing speed (VPS) and functional connectivity the cingulo-opercular network predicts gain. Using theory of attention, derived quantitative estimates VPS before after training. Study 1, 75 participated training, active-control or no ( n = 25 each). A significant Group × Session interaction indicated an increase alertness-training group but not control group, despite differing significantly between groups 2, 29 underwent resting-state MRI then Pretraining correlated with individual training-induced change VPS. conclusion, results indicate that improves provides a neural marker for predicting

An evaluation of alertness training for older adults

We present an evaluation of a self-administered, biofeedback-aided, alertness training programme called the Alertness: Training for Focused Living (ATFL) Programme, which was developed as part of the Technology Research for Independent Living (TRIL) collaboration. We conducted two studies in order to evaluate the programme. A randomized controlled trial was, first of all, conducted with 40 olde...

Dual N-Back Working Memory Training in Healthy Adults: A Randomized Comparison to Processing Speed Training

UNLABELLED Enhancing cognitive ability is an attractive concept, particularly for middle-aged adults interested in maintaining cognitive functioning and preventing age-related declines. Computerized working memory training has been investigated as a safe method of cognitive enhancement in younger and older adults, although few studies have considered the potential impact of working memory train...

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Cognitive Training Using a Visual Speed of Processing Intervention in Middle Aged and Older Adults

BACKGROUND Age-related cognitive decline is common and may lead to substantial difficulties and disabilities in everyday life. We hypothesized that 10 hours of visual speed of processing training would prevent age-related declines and potentially improve cognitive processing speed. METHODS Within two age bands (50-64 and ≥ 65) 681 patients were randomized to (a) three computerized visual spee...

A Cognitive Training Intervention Increases Resting Cerebral Blood Flow in Healthy Older Adults

Healthy aging is typically accompanied by some decline in cognitive performance, as well as by alterations in brain structure and function. Here we report the results of a randomized, controlled trial designed to determine the effects of a novel cognitive training program on resting cerebral blood flow (CBF) and gray matter (GM) volume in healthy older adults. Sixty-six healthy older adults par...

Processing speed training increases the efficiency of attentional resource allocation in young adults

Cognitive training has been shown to improve performance on a range of tasks. However, the mechanisms underlying these improvements are still unclear. Given the wide range of transfer effects, it is likely that these effects are due to a factor common to a wide range of tasks. One such factor is a participant's efficiency in allocating limited cognitive resources. The impact of a cognitive trai...
